If growth is the name of the game, video is a really smart choice. The data suggests that video’s ability to reach, educate, inspire and inform audiences fuels impressive growth for companies who invest in it.
Attention spans have never been shorter, and distractions – both online and offline – are everywhere. Video tends to hold viewer attention better than other media types, and it’s probably unsurprising that so many people love to learn via video.
There’s a commonly cited statistic that over 90% of online experiences begin with a search engine. The majority of these searches will come through Google, but it’s interesting to know that – owing to video’s popularity as a learning tool – many people will begin their search process in YouTube, looking specifically for video content. Whether it’s explainer videos, demonstration videos or instructional walk-throughs, the point remains: lots of potential customers are beginning their search on YouTube.
Of course, nobody knows Google’s exact algorithm. But the data has suggested repeatedly that rich media like video can contribute to a rankings boost. It can also hold visitors on your site longer – increasing dwell time, another significant ranking factor. The first page is where it’s at – after all, just 10% of users look past the first page of search results.
By combining lots of different learning styles into one slick package, video is a sensory experience that blows static content out of the water.

They didn’t elaborate to outline how many people are just watching funny cat videos on YouTube, of course, but it’s probably fair to say that’s a LOT of people watching a LOT of video.
The message here is clear: the journey doesn’t stop when the video does. Video ads on social media are reaching and engaging consumers – who are then prepared to continue their research and fact-finding about a brand after the video stops.
For this reason, it’s always a good idea to make sure that your video content designed for Facebook is equipped with closed captions or subtitles. This means that the video makes sense even if the sound doesn’t play.
When it comes to distribution and reach, YouTube is really a must-use platform to connect with your audience.
It’s interesting to note that marketers are going to continue using video in the year ahead. But what speaks even louder for the ROI of video content is the fact that so many – almost 9 in 10 – are looking to increase spend, too.
This really illustrates how viewing habits are changing. Increasingly, modern consumers expect video to be available on-demand – the shows they want to watch, the topics they’re interested in, the brands they relate to.

Which is, like, super appropriate if you think about it…
This is a powerful statistic because it demonstrates that people don’t just sit back and let video content wash over them – they remember what they see. It makes an impact on them that they can usually recall for at least a few weeks after.
